 I Thank...I Thanked

Psalm 100

Shout with joy to the LORD, O earth!  Worship the LORD with gladness.  Come before him, singing with joy.

Acknowledge that the LORD is God!  He made us, and we are his.  We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise.  Give thanks to him and bless his name.

For the LORD is good.  His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.

Thoughts.....

Praise God!  Good morning!  I pray everyone is doing well, and, if not, please use our prayer page to let us know how we can pray for you and with you.  I will lift up your burdens to the Lord our God.  I hope those reading the prayer page will do the same.  Trust in HIM with all your heart.

This month in the United States of America, we celebrate Thanksgiving...a day set aside to give thanks for everything God has given us.  But every day should be a day of thanksgiving.  This whole month, I thought we could look at what words are used in the Bible regarding giving thanks and the meanings behind them. 

The Psalm above directs us appropriately and can be used in joy and despair as a gentle reminder. 

This may appear to be an English grammar class of sorts, but it is really going to be inclusive of Hebrew-Aramaic, and Greek.  Let me start with the following to help put word usage into perspective:

"I thank God for Jesus.   I thanked him yesterday, I have thanked him today, and I will thank him tomorrow, for all he has done for me." :  I thank God and I thanked him yesterday, ::"""

I am going to break down what The Strongest Strong's Exhaustive Concordance Of The Bible has for references and definitions.  I would like you to take the time to review the scripture references and do the brief exercise I will provide in a bit.  The number at the end of the reference refers to the location of the definitions in the dictionary in the back of the book, for both the Old and New Testaments.  I will note the actual word, word source and definitions.  Please note the references given are from a compilation of the King James Version and the New International Version.  If you do not have either of these Bibles, you will find minor variations, and perhaps not the actual word, but the thought intent instead.

2168  eucharisteo, v, GK, to thank, give thanks, render gratitude; this can mean words that express gratitude or the emotion of gratitude.

Ok..so do you see a pattern here?  2192 + 5485 is to echo charis....repeat your charity.  Give thanks, express praise, confess....read the list again and see which words pop out at you.  Think about whether you have felt, done, acted on, performed any of these recently....and whether you are willing to do this today....for all eternity?  It's really important to read at least SOME of the references to get a feel for what occured before and after...the why...the thanks....a miracle?  What gift will you give the Lord our God?

Now, I'd like you to make a list of those you feel you would like to THANK today.  And also a list of those you have THANKED in your life....recently and over your life.  Relax.  I am not going to ask for your list.  This is not going to be graded.  This is for you...and for God.  It is an attempt to help you realize what a major, or not so major, role God plays in your life.  It is also an opportunity for you realize all you have been given in life, whether it be mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, or material.  A moment to say thank you to those who have stepped up, embraced, reached out.  You may not be able to say thank you directly.  Someone may have died.  Say thanks anyway.  Someone may live elsewhere or be lost to you.  Say thanks anyway.  God will know and the thanks will be showered on that person in another way.  The world is round.   

Have you asked God for forgiveness for any sins you may have committed?  Have you thanked him?  Have you thanked him for giving you Jesus?  Have you thanked Jesus for dying for you?  Now may be a good time if you have not.  Have you thanked Holy Spirit for enlightening you?   

I hope this will be an emotional journey for you...that you will take the time to let this soak into the core of your being....and that you will 'echo charis'.  Now.....

Let Us Pray

Dear Heavenly Father God, Lord Jesus, and Teacher...Comforter Holy Spirit.  Thank you....for everything.  I come to your presence with thanksgiving.  I am blessed to know you love me and that you have given me the opportunity to be forgiven of my sins...if I ask, and, that I might receive eternal life, if I live a life of obedience to you with thanksgiving.  Please forgive me of my sins, and instill in me the desire to be a promise child.  Please Holy Spirit, come into my life fully.  Baptise me in your fullness.  Please fill me to overflowing with all those things I need by and of your grace, to be everything I need to be for you, those in the world to whom YOU send me, and for myself.  Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but say the word and I shall be healed.  Now send me forth to do all you have called me to do and be for the people that so desperately need to hear your message...or be reminded.  Help me be encouraged to live the life I have started with you.  Help me to always say thank you to you and to others.  Keep me strong.  Help me to pronounce to the world who you are, that you are, and how wonderful you are, and that they can have you in their lives, too.  Help me to bring them to Holy Spirit that he might baptise them with the fullness of your love, your saving grace, your guiding grace.  Let me encourage others...and be encouraged.  Give me and all others in the world a new life in you.  And help me and all others worthy to receive the prize of the high calling of God...eternal life.  I am so grateful that you love me...thank you.  I bow down to you, my Father, God, and Glorious Love....Jesus, Holy Spirit Sanctifier.  Help me to always be real...be true...be right...be loving...and...be thankful.  And SPEAK thanks NOW.  Thank you....and...Amen.

  Our Current Cause

It is time to reach into the community and the world around you to see wherein lies the greatest need.  As you choose to focus on these areas, do so with a servant's heart.  Whether the need is for children, adults, or animals, or any cause in between that will help those in need, ask God how you can best serve his needs, what path you must take, and how long you should persevere.  Sometimes we are to be in the lives of others merely as stepping stones.  Sometimes we are to touch those lives forever.  Whatever journey you are called to take, whatever team you will be a member of, know this:  God is with you always...even til the end of time.  He loves you, is grateful for you, and will help you along life's way, especially if you are helping others along theirs, persevering with a servant's heart.
