Back To The Future - Part 6

Genesis 1:1 - 2:4

Genesis

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  The earth was empty, a formless mass cloaked in darkness.  And the Spirit of God was hovering over its surface.  Then God said, " Let there be light," and there was light.  And God saw that it was good.  Then he separated the light from the darkness.  God called the light "day" and the darkness "night."  Together these made up one day.

And God said, "Let there be space between the waters to separate water from water."  And so it was.  God made this space to separate the waters above from the waters below.  And God called the space "sky."  This happened on the second day. 

And God said, "Let the waters beneath the sky be gathered into one place so dry ground may appear."  And so it was.  God named the dry ground "land" and the water "seas."  And God saw that it was good.  Then God said, "Let the land burst forth with every sort of grass and seed-bearing plant.  And let there be trees that grow seed bearing fruit.  The seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came."  And so it was.  The land was filled with seed-bearing plants and trees, and their seeds produced plants and trees of like kind.  And God saw that it was good.  This all happened on the third day.

And God said,  "Let bright lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night.  They will be signs to mark off the seasons, the days and the years.  Let their light shine down upon the earth."  And so it was.  For God made two great lights, the sun and the moon, to shine down upon the earth.  The greater one, the sun, presides during the day, the lesser one, the moon, presides through the night.  he also made the stars.  God set these lights in the heavens to light the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness.  And God saw that it was good.  This all happened on the fourth day.

And God said,  "Let the waters swarm with fish and other life.  Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind.  So God created great sea creatures and every sort of fish and every kind of bird.  And God blessed them, saying, "Let the fish multiply and fill the oceans.  Let the birds increase and fill the earth."  This all happened on the fifth day.

And God said, "Let the earth bring forth every kind of animal - livestock, small animals, and wildlife."  And so it was.  God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to reproduce more of its own kind.  And God saw that it was good.

Then God said, "Let us make people in our image, to be like ourselves.  They will be masters over all life - the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the livestock, wild animals, and small animals." 

So God created people in his own image:  God patterned them after himself; male and female he created them.

God blessed them and told them, "Multiply and fill the earth and subdue it.  Be masters over the fish and birds and all the animals.  And God said, "Look!  I have given you the seed-bearing plants throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food.  And I have given all the grasses and other green plants to the animals and birds for their food."  And so it was.  Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was excellent in every way.  This all happened on the sixth day. 

So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed.  On the seventh day, having finished his task, God rested from all his work.  And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from his work of creation.

This is the account of the creation of the heavens and the earth.

 Thoughts....

How would God have known man needed a woman?  Unless....the US he referred to was SHE?  And yet, he tried multiple sources for companionship per Genesis 2.  But Adam knew, grasped, understood that Eve was best and part of his flesh and bone, so how could God NOT have KNOWN - especially since we, male AND female, were all made in his image.  Or were we?

Is this all just folklore?  I can see folks sitting around a fire trying to explain to youth how the great earth was inhabited based on stories handed down of old.  But didn't we learn, based on newly found documents (Dead Sea Scrolls), that they supported nearly verbatim in context what the Old Testament says from  historically documented facts?

I know....this just keeps getting deeper - with great lack of understanding in our human limitations.  That God's just God?  Big JUST....Bigger GOD!

John said in 1 John 2:26-27, "I have written these things to you because you need to be aware of those who want to lead you astray.  But you have received the Holy Spirit [Have you???], and he lives within you [Does he???], so you don't need anyone to teach you what is true [Are you sure???]  For the Spirit teaches you all things, and what he teaches is true - it is not a lie.  So continue in what he [not me, not another pastor, teacher, minister, rabbi, etc., specifically] has taught you, and continue to live in Christ."

The point being that you need to be IN THE WORD with THE Holy Spirit, and the man who wrote it, God, albeit through others he inspired to do so, and Jesus, allowing them to teach you all things.  I can teach you some things, but I continue to hope you are in the Word, and asking Holy Spirit if what I am teaching is true, and true for you.  

You can read the same scripture every year, multiple times a year, and God will either show you the same meaning for your life and his truth, or he will continue to peel off layers to depths of understanding each time.  They are all true.  And true for your life, as well as others around you, and all Christians, if you let him in to teach you. 

Jesus said, "Who do you say I am?"

If the Spirit of God hovered over the earth, and God spoke, and Jesus was there, that means God is Spirit, Life, Redeemer and we've had all 3 within us, male and female, all along, having been created in God's image. 

That being the case, why aren't we drawing on our inner resources to learn, and grow, and make right/more right decisions?  Why aren't we opening ourselves up to the truth, and life giving, redemptive love within to live our lives, and love, accept, and embrace all others, instead of spewing hate filled divisive slurs and rhetoric at others, because we don't understand, and should, based on those within us from whom we can draw all truth, love, and wisdom and forward looking embrace as one with another?  

Antoine de Saint Exupery said, "Love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction."  Hmmmmmmm.......

We were not put on this earth to serve ourselves.  We were put on this earth to serve God and others in God's Holy name.  He did not tell us we have to agree, like, or be friends with another.  He told us we HAD TO …. LOVE …. one another.  With our whole heart, that he instilled within us, having his DNA, and therefore capacity to love as he loved/s us - in creating us, embodying us with truth and knowledge, redeeming us with the offering of eternal life....if we only would open ourselves up to Him/Them and put Him/Them first in our life.

Jesus said in John 14:6-7, "I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one can come to the Father except through me.  If you had known who I am, then you would have known who my Father is.  From now on you know him and have seen him!"

Jesus so embodied God, his life blood, his love, his intent, his everything. God was so fully with him, was in him, that he was the embodiment of God.     

Philip said, in verse 8, "Lord, show us the Father and we will be satisfied."

Jesus replied, "Philip, don't you even yet know who I am, even after all this time I have been with you?  Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father!  So why are you asking to see him?  Don't you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?  The words I say are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through us  Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me.  Or at least believe because of what you have seen me do.  John 14:9-11.

Jesus goes on to say that Holy Spirit lives with us, but will be IN us once Jesus goes to heaven, as his Father will send him and he will teach us everything, and remind us of everything Jesus has told us. 

Jesus also tells us we can be cut off from him and the Father in John 15.  For those who have been taught and always believed once saved, always saved....you better read the Word with Holy Spirit because Jesus did NOT say in this chapter 'once saved always saved'.  In fact he said we can be cut off.  

He goes on to say in verse 9, "I have loved you even as the Father has loved me.  Remain in my love.  When you obey me, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father and remain in his love.  I have told you this so that you will be filled with my joy.  Yes, your joy will overflow!  I command you to love each other in the same way that I love you.  And here is how to measure it - the greatest love is shown when people lay down their lives for their friends.  You are my friends if you obey me.  I no longer call you servants, because a master doesn't confide in his servants.  Now you are my friends, since I told you everything the Father told me.  You didn't choose me, I chose you.  I appointed you to go and produce fruit that will last., so that Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.  I command you to love each other." 

We were created with, by, and in love....by God.

We were embodied with truth, knowledge, wisdom....from Holy Spirit

We were offered eternal life by the redeemer of love and life....Jesus.

From the beginning, through all eternity....God is still....just God.

Let Us Pray

God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, it seems we have been on a ride FOR our lives, and, though we have learned much, and are tying to wrap our head around much, we still have very much more to learn.  Open our hearts and minds to the truths that lie within the pages of YOUR written word, so that, we may know you better, and learn all we need to know to grow into who we need to be for you, and for ourselves, and others who need to know who you are, that you are, and how wonderful you are, so that we may spend all of eternity in your arms of love.  Forgive us our sins, heal us and make us whole.  Holy Spirit, please fill us to overflowing, so we don't miss a beat of the hearts and minds of you, Jesus, and God.  With Jesus, and in Jesus' name I pray to you, dear Heavenly Father, God, by and with the power of your Holy Spirit.  I praise you.  I thank you.  I love you.  I pray all others do as well.  Amen.  P.S. God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, please help us wrap our minds around all YOU have to teach us regardless of what we have been taught over the years and believed to be true as many, before now, have passed along what they learned, which may or may not have been valid as to what YOU want us to learn from YOU.  Help us to fully understand you as you would have us to, so we can better follow you in all the right ways.  Thank you.  I do love you.  I praise you.  Amen.

'The Unforced Rhythms of Grace'

"Abruptly Jesus broke into prayer:  "Thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth.  You've concealed your ways from sophisticates and know-it-alls, but spelled them out clearly to ordinary people.  Yes, Father, that's the way you like to work."

Jesus resumed talking to the people, but now tenderly.  "The Father has given me all these things to do and say.  This is a unique Father - Son operation, coming out of Father and Son intimacies and knowledge.  No one knows the Son the way the Father does, nor the Father the way the Son does.  But I'm not keeping it to myself; I'm ready to go over it line by line with anyone willing to listen."
